Thursday December 5th 2013 – Ruaha National Park….Wow!!

What a game drive!  Our guide was Habib the same person who drove us out to Tandala.  He is extremely knowledgeable and took great care of us.  We spent all day in the park and saw just about every animal – lots of elephants which Ruaha is famous for, lions, cheetah, Kudu, Impala, Giraffe, Zebra, Hippo …. OH MY!!  Here is the thing that was completely different for me….we were in an open car and the animals were extremely close.  They seemed perfectly acclimated to the car and to us….we actually drove up to lions sleeping within about 10 feet of my side of the car…. Yikes!

In similar fashion we drove up to a Cheetah.

The elephants are perfectly at ease walking all over while we watch – no gathering around the babies or other behaviours I saw the last time.  I am interested to ask my friends who have recently gone to the Northern Parks whether the animals are acclimated as well.

Ruaha is the largest of the parks and it takes about 3 days to see the whole thing.  We will take a day off tomorrow to rest and lounge by the pool and then go back for another day on Saturday.  This was such a good idea to come here!
