Wednesday, December 4th 2013 - Rhino Beetles and sweet memories

We arrived at Tandala this afternoon.   It is about 10 Km from Ruaha National Park. What a beautiful spot.  Our hosts are Dionyshia and her husband John and their daughter Georgia.  They are very nice and welcoming.  They are all born Tanzanian of Greek heritage – who knew?  They have a watering hole on their property where we are told to expect elephants and lions and potentially all of the park animals at night.  They have Masai guards who escort us everywhere after dark.  We are relaxing for today and plan a game ride tomorrow.  We are the only guests tonight but they expect a bunch of Belgians for 4 days tomorrow.

Our tents are quite luxurious built on stilts with solar power.  Mine overlooks the river which is dry right now since the rains are late.  They have had enough rain here to make most of the area green – they have a beautiful carpet of green grass now which John tells us will grow very tall as the rains continue.  The beds are of the “cowboy” variety – extremely firm….not quite a plank or the open range but definitely not soft.  Food is quite good – Dionyshia is in charge of this and I can see she takes pride in her menu.  Neither Sean or I have much of an appetite yet…of course no one has yet offered us Cheetoes or Potato chips so you never know what that could bring!

My personal deck overlooking the river.

What a beautiful sink!   Encourages hand washing and teeth brushing!

And the stone shower - solar heated water - open to the sun.....words fail me!

Got a great photo of a Rhino beetle today.  Georgia brought it to the table for us to  see.  John Paul should get a kick out of that one.  I have a sweet memory of my first trip to TZ when I took the bug and lizard pictures for Luke and wore the Harley-Davidson necklace he gave me at the airport everywhere when I was here.  This time the bug and lizard pictures are for John Paul and I left one of my Tanzanian beaded bracelets with him and I have the other so we are connected while I am here.  I am so very lucky!
